CORN PLANTING DAY

Today is corn planting day!! Once a year we gather at my dads to plant 2-2.5lbs of sweetcorn. That is over 22 rows of corn in my dad's garden. He has a garden that is 80 ft. wide and 123 ft. long. That is 9,840 sq. ft. of garden, almost 10 times the size of my garden. Everyone met to plant corn this afternoon. Two hole diggers, two planters, two hole cover uppers. (if that is a word) We took a couple of breaks and got it in pretty quickly. Then dad bought pizza for everyone.
Dad's garden is 80'x123' (9,840 square foot) It's huge!
Even the kids helped

Why so much corn? Well.....we have always done it this way. Five families, over 18 mouths to feed. My dad shares his corn with all of us kids and we have enough all winter.

Each family ends up with 12-18 quarts of corn to put in their freezer. Corn picking day will be around the beginning of August. I will update my blog with that crazy day.

It was a good hot day to plant
Making sure the rows are straight

We had quite the assembly line going today.
